After reading through Beloit College Mindset's list I found a few I really agreed with, some I didn't agree with, and also some I had no clue about; I actually had a lot more than a few I didn't understand. When I was finished reading this list I realized how much things change over the years. I agreed strongly with three of them; 2(Email is just too slow, and they seldom if ever use snail mail), 27(Computers have never lacked a CD-ROM disk drive), and 62(Having hundreds of cable channels but nothing to watch has always been routine). I disagreed with numbers 19(They never twisted the coiled handset wire aimlessly around their wrists while chatting on the phone), 28(They’ve never recognized that pointing to their wrists was a request for the time of day), and 50(Toothpaste tubes have always stood up on their caps).
Of the three I agreed with, 62 caught me as the best one. I can't even count how many times I have sat down to watch TV and have not been able to find a single thing to watch out of the 100+ channels. Number 2 came in at a close second though because I would choose texting over Email, for a faster way to communicate, and Email over snail mail (which I only use to send cards). Last of all came number 27. My mom and I were looking at computers for college and we came to one that didn't have a CD-ROM disk drive and I learned that day that computers weren't originally made with one.
I disagreed with 19 and 28 both, but not very strongly. I can remember talking on the phone a lot as a kid while playing with the cord. I also remember a lot through school having to point at my wrist when we weren't supposed to talk and class and I couldn't see the clock. My slight disagreement with these two is because I only remember having a wall phone for a few years and not everyone knew what I was talking about when I pointed at my wrist. I really disagree with number 50 though because I still have tooth paste tubes that don't stand, not very efficient at all!
There were others on the list that I slightly agreed with or disagreed with but these six are the ones that stood out the most. It really surprised me as I went through the list at how much I didn't know and I figure that's because I truly don't know about them. It will be fun to watch this site over the next decade and see how much it changes even then.
I soooo agree with the stinking tooth paste! Even if it is suppose to stand, it never stays up! (: ha
ReplyDeletei agree texting is faster, email is for old people and slow paced folks
ReplyDeleteStupid tv channels. I'm pretty sure everyone encounters the problem of not being able to find a show on the hundreds of channels. It's quite frustrating.
ReplyDeleteI agree with not being able to find anything to watch on T.V. even when we have a ton of channels!
ReplyDeletePointing at your wrist for time is a universal signal like the thumbs up sign, it will never go away.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with the telephone comment, our house didnt get a cordless phone until i was like 10 and I was always the one that answered the phone!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the telephone thing.I remember having a wall phone when i was little, and than when we switched to cell phones us kids would play with the wall phones. Its weird to relize how much has changed in our life time.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with you on the toothpaste caps. I don't think I have even seen a toothpaste tube that is like that! And I can't really see them working very well!
ReplyDeleteI don't like txting, the only I carry a phone is so I know if something bad happens and I need to get back home. I never had a problem with sitting my toothpaste up on its cap.
ReplyDeleteI also thought that the toothpaste one was weird. The majority of the toothpaste tubes don't stand on their caps.
ReplyDeleteI agree and disagree with the texting thing. If I'm gonna get ahold of a friend I will text him, but if I just want to have a conversation about a subject with an old friend I will email them instead.
